The validator automatically checks all item page views, category page views, shopping carts, and conversions shared with the Datatrics tracking script. If we spot a possible issue, you’ll get notified in Datatrics when logging in.

A warning notification will show when your project’s tracking script didn’t receive events for one or more of the aforementioned categories in the last hour. When clicking on this error, you will be redirected to a page with this information:

You can dive into possible errors by clicking on the View Details button in the Details column. Please continue reading to learn about the popup that appears. When you click Ignore, the error will go away in Datatrics, except for the integration page. However, the message will appear again in all of Datatrics when the category status is resolved (turns green) and a possible error is found again in the future.

Validating e-commerce tracker events

Next to diving into possible errors via this warning, it’s also possible to check events on the Datatrics Tracker page in the Integration section. In the VALIDATION column of the installed tracker, click on View details. You will be greeted with the following screen:

For every category, you can find checks if the events are present for the previous hours. A warning icon will appear in the Status column if events are missing.

It’s also possible to check individual events for every category by clicking on the blue button that appears when you expand the hourly checks. You can also visit this page by clicking on the button below:

For every event category, you can find events from the last 24 hours, with a maximum of 50 events:

Conversions

For conversions, it’s possible to hover the conversion ID on the left side. This will display the item IDs, quantity, and the price of items in the conversion event:

It is important to check if these Item IDs match content in Datatrics, so our algorithms can use all fields of content items to see buying patterns for your customers. Also, it enables you to target customers who bought items with specific characteristics.

The last column of this page displays a Goal ID. This column is only filled for manual conversions received via the tracker.

Categories and Item pages

Categories and Item pages show the names and URLs of recently visited categories/items. These only show when items and categories from the content section in Datatrics are recognized on your website by our tracking script.

Shopping carts

This tab shows all shopping carts which haven’t transferred into conversions. When you hover the Visit ID of the shopping cart, it displays the item IDs, quantity, and price of items in the shopping cart event.

It is important to check if these Item IDs match content in Datatrics, so our algorithms can use all fields of content items to see buying patterns for your customers. Also, it enables you to target customers who added items with specific characteristics to their cart or even send abandoned cart emails.

What to do if events are missing

If you are missing events in one of the categories, you can follow one of the guides below to check what’s causing the issue:
