Video and animated formats are becoming more and more an essential part of customers’ shopping experience: according to recent research, 66% of customers prefer to learn about products by watching videos instead of reading descriptions (Wyzowl, 2022).

Integrating videos or gifs in your e-commerce strategy can be implemented through Datatrics. You can easily use gifs instead of static photos in your notifications, just like adding a typical picture.

You can also create notifications (pop-ups in the corners or full-screen ones) and embed a video that can automatically start playing. It’s optimal to set the video on mute so the users can decide if they want to turn it on or let the customer decide when to play it, and it won’t interfere with their shopping experience.

Some examples are videos that explain how to choose between different products (they can be put on product pages or, if they are less specific, in the comparison phase of the Customer Journey) or videos about your brand.

If you have a video that shows a new collection recently launched, you can create a notification on the homepage or category page.

How to integrate Youtube videos into your touchpoints:

The first step is to generate the iframe with the video to be played: to do that, we need to open the video on YouTube, click on Share, then on Embed:

We can edit the code with any parameter depending on our needs like size, autoplay, and button display, and, when we are done, we can copy the code:

It is also possible to explore all the available options for the embedded videos from Youtube's player demo webpage.

You also have to use an Iframe to embed them on the notification for GIFs.

Tip: Chrome and Firefox's latest versions don't allow you to set a video both autoplay and unmuted. If you set it as autoplay, it will always be muted. Also, you need to make sure that the iframe's width is lower than the notification size! (Datatrics’ default notification's width is 420 pixels)

Once you have done that, you can create a notification touchpoint (check out this article to learn how).

Make sure you set the layout as vertical (the second option), fill all the elements you wish, and include the iframe code in the description.
